Not so sure about the bowtie.
The food
The tea party table.
Here are some pictures that were on my cell phone from the party. Let's just say I was so excited to throw Carson his first party. I had so many fun ideas, and was loving the party planning aspect of motherhood. It was stressful, but I was determined to make sure that I did it all by myself. I am the mommy, and it was my idea. I didn't want help, and I wanted the control pretty much. I can admit that!
We decided to have a party for Carson in Utah because we won't be here for his actual first birthday. We are leaving on Friday to spend the summer there!
The day of the party didn't start off exactly like I planned. It was raining, and everyone was giving me doubts about the amount of food. I got a lot of, "are you sure that is enough?" I was tired and cranky before the party even started.
I ended up skipping church, (which I am sure was a bad idea) to set up. I ended up getting a lot done. When everyone else came home we began assembling food. I was getting really excited! We were expecting about 30 people. In the beginning, I was not expecting hardly anyone to come. Let's just say I have friends and family with a reputation of being a tad flaky. Everyone had confirmed and I really couldn't believe it was all going to work out so beautifully!
Things were set up, Carson was down for a nap. (A complicated task that I thought would not happen before the party.) The party was supposed to start at 4, and around 3:30 the phones started going off. We had 9 cancellations. I have a pet peeve. It is a simple one. I understand that people have things come up, I do. But, if you have something come up almost every time you commit to do something, I will dub you a flake. That's just how it is! If you don't want to come, or have something else to do, just say so from the beginning! PLEASE! So, we had 9 people have something come up last minute. I am not mad or anything, simply stating that I let my hopes get the best of me. :)
As family and friends start to arrive, Carson wakes up screaming. It took him a while to calm down. Then, he was pretty mad about the bow tie. :)
As everyone is getting food and the littles are taking their place at the table, my mother in law gets a phone call from Devin's grandma, stating that they were considering taking Grandpa back to the hospital. (He had just been in for gallbladder removal and was having some complications related to diabetes.) Basically, half the party left to take care of Grandpa- which I totally understand, and wouldn't have it any other way.
After some of the changes settled in, we were all able to enjoy ourselves and have a good time. Carson opened gifts, we had cake (which he LOVED), played Pin the Tail on the Donkey, which Isaac dominated. I had never seen anyone get it RIGHT on!
As things wound down, I realized for myself that it is pointless to spend so much money and effort for a party that Carson will NEVER remember, and that pretty much ended up being disastrous, if I want to be negative about it.
As we were getting ready for bed and Carson was coming down from his sugar high, he grabbed my face and gave me a big wet kiss, and I realized that even though he won't ever remember the party, it was worth it, because he is worth it! I love that little boy, and I can't believe he is getting so old. (If you want to call 10 mos old.) I say I will never do it again, but on July 10, it will happen again, and the next year....and the next year....and the next year....
